Sunny Art fair
KULACOM launched a competition to allow Jordanians to vote for their favorite up-and-coming artist who, in addition to being named Jordan’s Favorite Artist, would also be awarded JD 1,000 prize. The big winner was Karma Shawa.
In conjunction with Sunny 105.1, KULACOM Jordan participated in the Sunny FM annual art fair. KULACOM’s focus during the fair was to support new talents by helping with their entrance fees and developing the favorite artist competition. Karma was among 25 local artists who took part in the competition that was launched by KULACOM at the Sunny Art Fair in December 2009.
Karma is a 25 year old emerging artist born and raised in Jordan to a family with a strong appreciation of the arts. Exposed to art at a very young age, Karma pursued painting as a child and won the Prince Hassan Award for Islamic Art while she was an IB student in Amman.
After obtaining her undergraduate degree from the London School of Economics, she began a career in the public sector, development and human rights. However, that didn't stop her from nurturing her passion; Karma spent the last four years studying fine arts under artist Aziz Amoura, and exhibited her artwork for the first time at the Sunny Art Fair.
Karma aspires to apply her technical skills and experience in use of light, texture, color tones, and composition to develop new forms of expression through experimentation with different mediums. She hopes to complete her first solo exhibition in the very near future.
Karma and other Jordanian artists displayed their work during the Sunny Art Fair and showcased their talent on the KULACOM website at www.kulacom.jo, where visitors to the site voted for their favorite artist.
